🛑 BT’s Alarm Redcare System Ends 1st August – What It Means For You

🛑 BT’s Alarm Redcare System Ends 1st August – What It Means for You

BT Redcare is a secure alarm monitoring service offered by BT, designed to protect properties by constantly monitoring alarm systems and notifying alarm receiving centres when an alarm is triggered.

BT has officially confirmed that all Redcare alarm signalling services, including legacy analogue and IP-based Redcare Essential, Advanced, Advanced Extra, will cease on 1 August 2025

🔌 Why is this happening?

• It’s part of BT’s portfolio simplification and the nationwide migration from PSTN (analogue) to IP-based telecoms networks.

• Redcare depended on the soon-to-be-retired switched telephone network. With PSTN being phased out and shifted to fibre/IP infrastructure, older Redcare hardware will soon be obsolete.

💡 Risks of Doing Nothing
Without a replacement by the August 2025 deadline, homes, businesses, fire systems, sprinklers, fridge monitoring, and water/leak alarms will lose 24/7 signalling.

This exposes properties to threats like delayed emergency response, and for many, it could invalidate insurance where monitored signalling is a policy condition.

🔁 What You Should Do If You Have A ‘Redcare’ Alarm

  1. Audit your current system: Is it Classic, GSM, or NGP? When does the contract end?
  2. Use an accredited installer: Companies must be NSI or SSAIB approved, with maintenance contracts and independent Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) monitoring.
  3. Confirm insurer compliance: Work with your insurer or broker to ensure chosen systems meet policy terms. Keep written evidence of compliance.
  4. Act early: With 120,000 systems affected throughout the UK, expect supply and installation pinch points as August 2025 nears.

Why Upgrade?

  • Maintains continuous property protection and police/fire response.
  • Meets or exceeds insurance policy requirements for alarm monitoring
  • Enhances future proofing with modern, fibre/IP‑compatible technology.

In Summary:

  • BT Redcare shuts down on 1 August 2025, legacy systems without replacement will stop working.
  • A dual-path DP3 alarm system, installed by an accredited provider and endorsed by your insurer, is typically required.
  • Essential steps: audit your system, liaise with accredited installer and your insurance broker, upgrade early to ensure safety and policy compliance.

Don’t wait until the last minute, your property’s security, safety, and insurance depend on it.
