Our Story

From kitchen table to Cornwall’s trusted insurance team.

Founded in 1977 at the kitchen table of Graham and Liz Hodgson, Hodgson Insurance Solutions was built on honesty, care, and a commitment to community. What began with helping friends insure their cars through just a couple of insurers soon grew alongside Bude itself, becoming known for straightforward advice and friendly, reliable service.

Now led by Gary Hodgson, along with mum Liz, we remain proudly independent and firmly rooted in the same values we started with. Follow our journey from humble beginnings in a small village to becoming one of the South West’s most trusted independent insurance brokers.

1977

Where It All Began

Graham and Liz Hodgson founded the business from their kitchen table in the village of Week St Mary. With a passion for helping people and a commitment to doing things properly, Hodgson Insurance Services was born.

As our client base grew, we opened our first high street office in the seaside town of Bude, making it easier for the community to access personal and business insurance advice.

A Family Legacy Grows

Gary Hodgson, who joined the business straight from school, progressed over two decades from account executive to partner, continuing the legacy into the second generation of family leadership.

After outgrowing our original high street office, we moved into larger, purpose-renovated premises at Chapter House, creating a welcoming and professional space for clients and our growing team.

Gary Hodgson - CeRGI

Managing Director

Having joined the family firm after finishing school Gary has worked himself up to become a partner in the firm. Looking after commercial and personal business, especially hospitality, and keeping on top of the firms compliance issues.

Out of the office Gary enjoys all sports, recently hanging up his boots after nearly 30 yrs of football for Bude FC, representing Cornwall at county pool level, and helps run his local pool league as secretary.

Liz Hodgson

Managing Director

As co founder of the business Liz helps run the business with son Gary. Liz likes to handle the guest house business, but deals with all aspects of insurance and handles the firms company accounts.

Liz helps run a local Jive club in her spare time, is a top class flower arranger, and also volunteers her fundraising skills to Werrington Cricket Club.

Robin Worden

Account Executive

Robin joined the firm after completing his school A-levels, (a long time ago). Rob services all types of personal and business products for customers and also deals with the insurer accounts.

In his spare time Rob enjoys fishing, playing darts, pottering around in his garden allotment, has a wealth of cycling knowledge and thinks of himself as a professional bowls expert.

Aaron Nash

Account Executive

Aaron joined our team in 2016 having worked for Swinton Insurance for 6 years. Aaron handles the personal lines and small commercial business and is often one of the first people you'll speak to on the phone.

Aaron enjoys playing pool and darts, and is an avid Millwall football fan. His footie knowledge is second to none!!

Julie Inch - Cert Cii

Account Executive

Julie is our latest recruit joining in 2021 but is one of the most experienced having worked for another local broker for over 12 years assisting both commercial and personal lines customers.

Julies a Cornish maid and being Cornish you must farm, right? Julies spare time is used managing her flock of around 150 sheep. She also has days off in November purely so she can put up Christmas decorations.....what!!!

Graham Hodgson

Account Executive

Graham was co founder of the firm helping build a business from scratch to the successful business it has become today. In 2013 he decided to step back and retire. Graham comes in on rare occasions now to help out as and when required.

Graham is an active member of the community having been an Ambulance Responder, he now drives the local doctor around and you may see him performing one of his charity cabaret or singing acts.

Amy Scott

Account Executive

Amy is the newest addition to the team. Having gained knowledge working for a local broker, she has a wealth of sales and customer focused experience.
Outside of work Amy loves riding and being around horses. She’s very creative, a hobby of her includes making and selling all things using drift wood and resins.
